Mosquitoes: Why We Cannot Live Without Them

06 Oct, 2015

Christopher is a McGill graduate student and an expert on mosquitoes, those pesky insects that most of us agree we can live without.  Recently, he kept the entire Open Door crowd enthralled with a fascinating presentation, taking us through the mosquito life cycle, the diseases they transmit, the role they play in nature, and recent GMO strategies for controlling their populations.  The audience was fully engaged and questions were abundant, and Christopher’s knowledgeable answers often evolved into lively anecdotes and discussions.  Ultimately we learned that not only are mosquitoes a crucial food source for many species of birds, fish, and bats, they are also prolific pollinators.  In fact, we cannot live without them.  Thanks Christopher for enlightening us!
