Mike Curtis

14 May, 2013

We were saddened to learn that Mike died on Sunday evening, 12 May, at home.

Mike joined MSCM some 10 years ago when he approached us having learned about our work with CoSA from a friend.

He was our first part-time administrator back in 2003 and soon took over the role of chairing Open Door meetings which he did during Open Door’s growth time at the YMCA  from 2003 – 2006 and the first year or so of weekly meetings at Fulford Hall.

Mike made a valuable contribution as a member of several CoSA during those years as well as assisting in the community chaplaincy work for which he was talented, in receiving beneficiaries from elsewhere and aiding their orientation to life in Montreal.  He generously shared his home with guys in need from time to time.

Mike created and launched The Sou’WesterMSCM’s flagship newsletter, which continues to make an important contribution to our community life.  He served as a key member of our Steering Committee for several years before retiring from an active role with us in 2008.

Even in retirement Mike continued as a member of a few CoSA and as a member of an ad hoc group advising with regard to our participation in the national CoSA Demonstration Project.  In the last year, Mike participated with great satisfaction in a demanding  “CoSA”  assignment  in the  Special Handling Unit, which called upon his particular experience and which gave him great satisfaction.

Thank you Mike.  We are grateful for your contributions to MSCM.
