CoSA Funding Drying Up
23 Feb, 2015
With federal funding drying up for Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) sites all across the country, including our own here in Montreal, the unfortunate reality is that many Circles may soon cease to exist.
CoSA is a community program whereby teams of 3-4 volunteers provide accompaniment and support to high-risk sex offenders to aid in their reintegration, with the ultimate goal of preventing recidivism. This model has been demonstrated to reduce sexual re-offence rates by up to 80%. The implications of CoSA closures are numerous and serious, and the communities for which CoSAs serve stand to lose the most.
Our colleagues at CoSA-Ottawa are not giving up.
A fundraising gala and silent auction, “Standing up! For Community Safety”, will be held in support of CoSA-Ottawa on April 23. We encourage everyone in the area to join in supporting this important cause. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
