Canadian Federal Prisons to Switch to Powdered Milk

Another effort at cutting costs for the Canadian government has come in the form of switching to powdered milk in Canadian prisons.
This effort would save the federal government over $3 million but this comes at the cost of local dairy businesses having to forgo the benefits of providing for prisons and look at other avenues. Finding new customers will be a difficult endeavor.
This is potentially a tough call from the perspective of federal inmates. Certainly, there are huge differences in cost, but there are also differences in taste and nutritional value. Dietitians compare the nutritional value of powdered milk to skim milk once it is reconstituted with water. As for taste, it just isn’t the same, according to inmates.
