Beautiful Weather for MSCM’s Annual Personal Development Day
15 Aug, 2014
The sun always shines on MSCM’s annual lakefront Personal Development Day. With the promise of blue sky, 29 degrees and a quiet country setting, dozens of volunteers, inmates and ex-inmates happily gathered for Open Door’s day of reflection and celebration of community. Two tables overflowed with food while corn and Italian sausage roasted on an open fire. Two or three people found swimming trunks to go for a dip, and everyone was excited when the first ever bigger-than-a-minnow fish was reeled in.
With the constant changes in CSC regulations, we are thankful and blessed that this important Open Door tradition is still going strong. Our gratitude goes out to our hostess, Marie Beemans, who opens her home to us every year; we are appreciative of our golden escort drivers who bring people from the pens and from Montreal; and for our many members that bring food, drink and themselves. Finally, it has been said that we always have sunshine on our Personal Development Day because so many inmates that have passed away—friends of Marie, friends of MSCM—look down and decree glorious weather for our day of reflection. To them, too, we are so grateful!
