A Beautiful Day for All!
03 Aug, 2013
The sun shone bright over the Lake of Two Mountains, as our Steering Committee, staff, current and ex-beneficiaries as well as our invaluable volunteers gathered together for our Annual Personal Development Day by the Mille Ile river.
Attended by some 50 members of the MSCM community a great day was had by all with lots of food, conversation and fishing on the river. The pot luck lunch was excellent and plentiful as usual and the corn from the corn roast seemed extra sweet that day.
This marked the eighth year that MSCM has celebrated the summer and our community’s life in this way, and true to form everyone left feeling enriched and blessed to have been able to participate.
Steering Committee member, Marie Beemans opened not only her lakeside property but more importantly, her heart and worked hard organizing the potluck offerings brought by all attendees. Beneficiaries from FTC (Federal Training Centre) and B-16 (Montee St. Francois) institutions had a golden opportunity to develop their social skills. As an example, some tried their hand at fishing while others took charge of the corn roast.
Throughout the day members could be seen deep in conversation, laughing, playing with the dogs (of which there were a few) or simply sitting or standing contemplating the river as others unsuccessfully tried to catch fish (a lot of river weed was snared) or watching the various river craft go by – from canoers to jet-skis to motor boats and even some intrepid swimmers.
Near the end of the day, a birthday cake surprised Jeri, our Open Door Co-ordinator and there was even a threat of ‘the bumps’!
MSCM gives thanks for this blessed day and hope and expect to continue this tradition for many years to come.
Overall, it was a very successful Personal Development Day had by all!
